Double-amputee retired Marine, Rob Jones, runs 'Month of Marathons' to benefit wounded veterans

BALTIMORE - Retired Marine Corps Sergeant Rob Jones lost both of his legs from an IED attack while serving in Afghanistan in 2010.

Now he's on the verge of finishing 31 marathons in 31 days to benefit wounded veterans.

His mission started in London and took him across the United States. After a stop in Baltimore on Friday, the double-amputee Marine will run his 31st marathon, on Veterans Day around the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

The goal of the Month of Marathons is to raise $1,000,000 for wounded veteran charities.

"I just feel honored that they found my story worthwhile enough to come out and support me," he said before gearing up to run near Baltimore's Camden Yards.

Jones said he decided to run 31 races because the longest months have 31 days. "If I'm going to do a month of marathons," he told FOX 5's Annie Yu, "I have to pick the longest possible month. That's how I am."

Jones has brought home a medal in the Paralympics and completed a solo bike ride across the U.S. to benefit wounded veterans.
